Cotuit Port: The "Santuit House" at this popular resort is now full and has been for the past fortnight and friend (James H.) Coleman has considerable trouble to find lodgings in the surrounding houses … A few nice rooms can now be secured in this house for September.

West Barnstable: One month ago, many of the cranberry bogs in this vicinity were budding and flowering very thickly. Since then, the fire worm has attacked them and the vines look as if the fire fiend itself had passed over them. Among the principal losers are F. Parker's estate, Jas. H. Jones, W. G. Whelden, and Asa Jenkins.

Hyannis: An excursion to Nantucket, the first of the season, is to take place Thursday. The steamer leaves Railroad Wharf at about 8 o'clock, a.m., or after arrival of the morning train from the Cape. It is a beautiful sail across the Sound and we expect to see a large party on the boat.

Massachusetts is losing its fish freezing industry. In 1919 there were 32 licensed cold storage warehouses which were freezing fish, today there are but 21. Of these, 11 warehouses are not now freezing fish, three are licensed to operate but do not carry fish, one is freezing ice but carrying no food and two small and five large warehouses are closed entirely. The estimated capacity of these closed warehouses is 200,000 cubic feet … The annual business of freezing of fish in this state has dropped from the maximum of 61,480,658 pounds per annum for the year ending Aug. 30, 1918, to 23,623,435 pounds per annum for the year ending June 15, 1922. (Note: The list of large freezer warehouses no longer carrying fish included Bay State Freezer, Inc. in Yarmouth and Cape Cod Fish Freezing and Packing Company in Barnstable.)

An Historical Pageant at the West Barnstable Meeting House will be presented at 4 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 17. The pageant depicts scenes from the early history of the Church and the Town of Barnstable, including early punishments as they were executed centuries ago … There are about 70 people from West Barnstable and neighboring villages taking part in the scenes. Year-round residents and summer visitors will be interested to witness this pageant. (Note: Tickets for the pageant cost $1 for anyone 12 years and over, 50 cents for those under 12, and admission was free for children under 7. Incidentally, “a historical” is the more proper usage – versus “an historical” — since the consonant “h” is not silent.)

The Cape Cod Melody Tent takes great pleasure in announcing the appearance of Louis Armstrong and his All Stars for one performance only, Sunday evening, Aug. 12. Mr. Jazz himself, Armstrong has been called "the greatest virtuoso of the age," and is already a legend in American music. He is undoubtedly the greatest single figure in the jazz world; with his dazzling technique, and, above all, his exceptional feeling for jazz, he creates the unique style of inspired improvisations. This genius of jazz has a magnetic personality and that never fails to penetrate the hearts of audiences wherever he goes.
